ANVIL CHORUS: Still 'In Mixing Mode'

January 9, 2009

After three successful San Francisco reunion shows, influential '80s progressive NWOSFHM (New Wave of San Francisco Heavy Metal) band ANVIL CHORUS is mixing 12 songs for a tentative early 2009 release. The tracks are all re-recorded, new versions of the popular cassette demo songs that have been widely traded in the worldwide metal underground for the past 25 years. These cuts have been updated and have recieved quality production. The sessions were produced by guitarist Thaen Rasmussen and vocalist/bassist Aaron Zimpel along with guitarist Doug Piercy, (now-former) drummer Joe Bennett and keyboardist Phil Bennet.

Commented the band: "In shopping the recorded tunes, we have received interest from several independent labels in the U.S. and Europe and are ironing out how we can get this thing released [as soon as possible].

"We are currently still in mixing mode!!!!! Arghhhhhh!!! Monetary issues have kept us stuck and unable to proceed through the last couple of months.

"As mentioned a while ago, we have two extremely capable and dedicated new members. We have been seriously rehearsing new material as well as choice old stuff with the hopes of setting up some local gigs real soon. We are looking for an inventive keyboard player to join the fold as well.

"We remain comitted to having the album out soon and appreciate the support from all who continue to stick by us."

Drummer Joe Bennett recently left ANVIL CHORUS and was replaced by Steve Kilgore. According to the band, "Steve is the perfect guy for the job having played for years with Aaron [Zimpel; vocals, bass] in RELEASE and with Thaen [Rasmussen; guitar] in several other projects. He has been a loooong time friend of band." Also newly added to the lineup is guitarist Carlos Hernandez, who "has been a part of the AC family since the early '80s," according to the group. "He did two of the recent reunion shows and features on the album as well. Doug Piercy will also still feature on the album, but will not serve as permanent guitarist."

ANVIL CHORUS' forthcoming album will feature cover artwork by Mark DeVito, who has previously worked on MOTÖRHEAD's "Motörizer".
